Frequently asked questions

For students and parents

Does it cost anything?

No. Searching, connecting with teachers and paying invoices by card are free for students and families. You pay your teacher for lessons, at their price.

Do I need an account?

No. You can search, connect with a teacher and pay an invoice without one.

What does the match score mean?

How closely a teacher fits what you told us: the level, teaching style, personality and lesson format you’re looking for. The instrument, style of music and the student’s age decide which teachers you see in the first place. The score isn’t a rating of how good a teacher is, and each student sees their own.

Are teachers background-checked?

No. We don’t run background checks, check identity or contact references, and teachers write their own profiles. Teachers who list ages under 18 promise us that no law or court order bars them from working with children and that they follow the rules that apply to them — but we haven’t checked that. Choosing a teacher, and how a child’s lessons are supervised, is your decision.

Can my child sign up?

For a student under 18, a parent or guardian does the searching and connecting. Teacher accounts are for adults only.

Where are the teachers?

Our first teachers are in the Boise area. Some also teach online, which works from anywhere.

How do I pay?

However your teacher accepts payment. If they invoice through Right Music Teacher, you can pay by card from the email link, with no account and no fee. Refunds are your teacher’s decision; if you can’t agree, email support@rightmusicteacher.com.

Who sees my information?

The teacher you connect with sees your name, email, phone number if you give one, and your note. The Privacy Policy explains the rest.

For teachers

What does it cost?

Free until your first student connects, then $10 a month to stay listed. Five invoices a month are free. Card payments from families carry 3.2% + $0.55. See Pricing.

When do students see my profile?

Once your email address is confirmed and your profile has the required details. You can see exactly what students see from your Profile page.

How do I get paid?

Families pay you directly however you like, or by card through your own Stripe account, paid out on Stripe’s standard schedule.

Can I pause?

Yes. Mark yourself full to stop new requests, or go inactive to leave searches and stop your listing fee.

Do you take a cut of my lessons?

We don’t take a percentage of your lesson price, and you set your own rates. Card payments made through Right Music Teacher carry a card payment fee of 3.2% + $0.55, taken from that payment. Payments you take directly, such as cash, check or Venmo, have no fee from us.
