How it works

For students and parents

1. Tell us what you’re looking for. Start with the instrument and your ZIP code or town. Then, if you like, a few quick preferences: the kind of teacher personality and teaching style that suits you, the style of music, lessons in person or online, and how far you’ll travel.

2. See your matches. You see teachers who teach your instrument, style of music and age group, each with a match score for how well they fit the level, teaching style, personality and lesson format you asked for. It isn’t a rating of how good a teacher is. Open any card to read the teacher’s full bio, the ages and levels they teach, their price, and reviews from students who connected with them.

3. Connect for free. Press Connect me! and send the teacher your name, email address and a note. If the lessons are for a child, a parent or guardian sends this. The teacher contacts you directly to set up a first lesson. You don’t need an account, and it costs nothing.

4. Pay your teacher, your way. Lessons are arranged between you and your teacher. If your teacher sends invoices through Right Music Teacher, you can pay by card from the link in the email, with no account and no fee to you. Many teachers also take cash, checks or other methods.

Choosing a teacher is your decision. We don’t run background checks, check identity or contact references. Teachers write their own profiles. Meet a new teacher the way you would anyone you found through a public listing, and decide how a child’s lessons are supervised.

For teachers

1. Create your profile. Sign up free, confirm your email address, and tell students what you teach, who you teach, where, and what you’re like to learn from. A photo and a short bio make the biggest difference. You can see exactly how students will see your card as you write it.

2. Get matched with students who fit. Students find you by instrument, location and the kind of teacher they want. When one presses Connect me!, you get their details by email and reply to them directly.

3. Your first connection is free. Listing costs nothing until your first student connects. Then you have at least 7 days to add a payment method if you’d like to stay listed, at $10 a month. If you do nothing, your listing simply goes inactive and you aren’t charged.

4. Invoice and get paid. Send invoices to your students from your dashboard, and let families pay by card. Card payments go to your own Stripe account, paid out on Stripe’s standard schedule.
